A Weird Email
The other day I received an interesting spam scam email:
The Email
Subject: warren5236 - monlo4m
Body
‘monlo4m’ is one of your pass:) My name is Ashla. One of the porn videos site you visited had my malware installed which taped a video of your greasy stimulating doings using your webcam & even taped the video you were playing! In the video recording you happen to be appearing stunning.
I have all of your mail with FB friends because my malware provided me access to all of them.
I’ll email your video to your contacts unless you pay me $1041 via B I T C O I N S within the next 24 hours to the below address: B I T C O I N Address: 13qD3AseGcZnyNt1vUH3itr6vNMhDXREce Make sure to Copy-Paste address because it is case sensitive.
Once money is sent, I will delete your video and every bit of information I have about you. If I do not get the money, I will send your video to every contact of yours. Just imagine concerning the awkwardness you will get. Moreover should you be in a loving relationship, exactly how it can affect?
Want proof? Reply “Yes”, & I’ll email your video to nine of your contacts right away.
Best wishes
This is a CRAZY idea for a scam email and I would like to explain why.
The Password
‘monlo4m’ is one of your pass:)
This was a password scheme I used at least a decade ago but I’ve moved everything over to passwords generated from LastPass so I’m guessing this was in a password database that leaked a long time ago (or is from a site I no longer use).
The Removal
Once money is sent, I will delete your video and every bit of information I have about you. If I do not get the money, I will send your video to every contact of yours. Just imagine concerning the awkwardness you will get. Moreover should you be in a loving relationship, exactly how it can affect?
I highly doubt that if a video like this existed it would be deleted after this person received their $1041. If they got money before they’ll ask for more.
Proof?
Want proof? Reply “Yes”, & I’ll email your video to nine of your contacts right away.
If I replied “Yes” and they sent a blackmail video to nine of my contacts wouldn’t that make the blackmail video useless? A better way to provide proof would have been to send a picture from the video.
What Should I Do?
If you found this page using a Google search and you received something similar to this “Don’t Panic”. Unless your email has more details about you (or they actually included a picture) it’s most likely a scam and you can delete the email.
If someone really did have control of my computer they would have access to both my bank account and E-Trade account and they wouldn’t be bothering me for $1041 they would just be slowing draining my bank account (I did just check and they appear to be fine :-) ).
